PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES ROBERT M. BERDAHL AS A MEMBER OF THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO THE PRESIDENT'S COMMISSION ON CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROTECTION

The President today announced his intent to appoint Robert M. Berdahl as a member of the Advisory Committee to the President's Commission on Critical Infrastructure Protection.

Dr. Robert M. Berdahl, of Berkeley, California, is currently the Chancellor of the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Berdahl also has joint academic appointment at Berkeley in History and the Graduate School of Public Policy. Prior to his employment at the University of California Berkeley, Dr. Berdahl was President at the University of Texas at Austin. He was also Regents Chair in Higher Education Leadership and the Walter Prescott Webb Chair in History. From 1986 to 1993, Mr. Berdahl was the Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to his tenure at the University of Illinois, he worked at the University of Oregon and the University of Massachusetts. In addition to his work in education he has authored many books and articles. Dr. Berdahl has also served on many boards and commissions including The Institute for the Humanities at Salado, United Way Capitol Area, and the American Council on Education Commission on Women in Higher Education.

Dr. Berdahl received his B.A. from Augustana College, an M.A. from the University of Illinois and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.

The President's Commission on Critical Infrastructure Protection was created by Executive Order 13010 on July 15, 1996. The Commission's charge is to protect certain national infrastructures including: telecommunications, electrical power systems, gas and oil storage transportation, banking and finance, transportation, water supply systems, emergency services, and continuity of government from threats both physical and cyber.
