President's Commission on Critical Infrastructure ProtectionAdvisory Committee Meeting

| WHAT: | Former Senator Sam Nunn and former Deputy Attorney General Jamie Gorelick will chair the first official meeting of the Advisory Committee to the President's Commission on Critical Infrastructure Protection (PCCIP). The Committee will review the PCCIP's preliminary findings and policy proposals. During the past year, the Commission has met with public and industry leaders from across the country to conduct research on physical and cyber threats to eight critical infrastructures: telecommunications, electric power systems, banking and finance, transportation, water supply systems, gas and oil storage and transportation, emergency services, and continuity of government services. The Commission will submit its final report to the President on October 13, 1997. |

| WHY: | The PCCIP was established to examine physical and cyber threats to U.S. critical infrastructures. "There is widespread recognition that the nature and scope of the threat to America’s critical infrastructure has changed as a result of advances in technology, therefore we should act now to protect our future," said Chairman Robert T. Marsh. |
