The
National Center for Manufacturing Sciences is a not-for-profit
cooperative research consortium based in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Founded in 1986, NCMS is widely recognized as the premier
source for the performance of collaborative manufacturing
R&D. More than 150 corporate members in the United
States and Canada, an annual project portfolio exceeding
$40 million, and an in-house staff representing a diverse
array of disciplines, back the organization. In the last
15 years, NCMS has formed and managed hundreds of research
programs in partnership with both the public and private
sectors. The cumulative value of these programs is nearly
half a billion dollars.
Manufacturers
are increasingly using the Internet for business. Yet,
precious few have solid plans to protect the valuable
intellectual capital they exchange. The NCMS Manufacturing
Trust initiative, in partnership with the US InfraGard
program, is communicating to employees and management
about these issues in terms each will understand, then
providing the educational resources needed to follow
up.
