Soldiers Wired.....

While writing this piece I reflected on some of my own experiences in the Army about fifteen or so years ago. A smile appeared quickly as I reminisced long days and nights while at the Jungle Operations Training Course, Ft Sherman, Panama. To move about the jungle we had a compass and a map. In a triple canopy jungle there was little light and very few reference points, as everything looked generally the same. DARK! Oh, how I wished I had a GPS (global positioning system) when my team was lost in the wee hours of the night... oh if we only had a palm computer to send a HELP message.....

Our future soldiers will be dressed for success! Warfighter kits consisting of built in radios, global position systems, and harnesses with wiring to connect to computers and other communication devices are only a few items in our soldier's future. Explore a while.....

Objective Force (Science and Technology).....

Visit the Army homepage and lurk about Army Transformation. There is a .pdf on the Objective Force (Science and Technology that I believe you will find very interesting. It discusses future combat systems (network-centric ...not platform-centric), provides a good picture of how the network-centric force is more lethal, a quick look at some protection systems, and much more.

After you have explored some of these sites, reflect a few moments and ask yourself ......

will this transformation increase our survivability, lethality, speed, timeliness, and responsiveness? How might we be challenged? What are our adversaries doing while we develop this force?
