Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge Announces Director of the National
Cyber Security Division

Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge is pleased to announce the appointment
of Amit Yoran of Virginia to serve as the Director of the National Cyber Security
Division of the Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection office at
the Department of Homeland Security. Mr. Yoran was most recently the Vice President
for Managed Security Services at Symantec Corporation where he was primarily
responsible for managing security infrastructures in 40 different countries.
Before working with Symantec, Mr. Yoran was the Founder, President and CEO
of Riptech, Inc., a leader in outsourced information security management and
monitoring. Before working in the private sector, Mr. Yoran was the Director
of the Vulnerability Assessment Program within the Computer Emergency Response
Team at the Department of Defense and the Network Security Manager and the
Department of Defense where he was responsible for maintaining operations of
the Pentagon's network. Mr. Yoran has a B.S. from the United States Military
Academy at West Point and an M.S. from George Washington University.
The Department of Homeland Security, in implementing the President's
National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace and the Homeland Security Act of 2002
announced
the creation of the NCSD under the Department's Information Analysis and
Infrastructure Protection Office in June 2003. The NCSD will provide for
24 hours a day, 7
days a week functions, including conducting cyberspace analysis, issuing
alerts and warning, improving information sharing, responding to major incidents,
and aiding in national-level recovery efforts. This Division represents a
significant
step toward advancing the Federal government's interaction and partnership
with industry and other organizations in this critical area.

Amit Yoran
Vice President, Managed Security Services Operations
Symantec Corporation
Amit Yoran is Vice President of Managed Security Services Operations at Symantec,
where he leverages extensive information security experience in both the public
and private sectors. In the private sector, Amit provided 24x7x365 managed
security monitoring for small to medium enterprises, as well as a number of
Fortune 500 companies. Considering public sector experience, Amit has worked
with a number of agencies, including the Pentagon, where he worked with national
and international law enforcement and intelligence organizations to prevent
and respond to security breaches of national infrastructure networks.
Prior to joining Symantec, Amit was president and chief executive officer
of Riptech, a managed security services provider that he founded in 1998. Previous
to this role, Amit served as Director of the Vulnerability Assessment and Assistance
Program for the U.S. Department of Defense Computer Emergency Response Team
(DoD/CERT).
Amit Yoran earned a M.S. in Computer Security from The George Washington University
and a B.S. in Computer Science with honors from The United States Military
Academy at West Point. Additionally, he serves as a member of The George Washington
University adjunct faculty.
