Bolivian officials have released
16 Bangladeshis arrested on a tip from French authorities that they were planning
to hijack an airline for a terrorist attack.
Interior Minister Alfonso Ferrufino said Friday, officials could not find
enough evidence to file terrorism charges against the detainees.
Mr. Ferrufino said characterized as vague the French warning that Bangladeshi
citizens might try to hijack planes in South America to attack U.S. interests
there.
French officials did not immediately comment on the incident.
Nine of the suspects were waiting to board a flight to Buenos Aires when
they were arrested Thursday at an airport in Santa Cruz. Bolivian officials
said French police had provided information the detainees had suspected links
to terrorist groups. They add their investigation will continue.
