FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
COALITION FORCES DROP LEAFLETS IN SOUTHERN IRAQ
MACDILL AFB, FL – Coalition aircraft dropped 360,000 informational
leaflets over southern Iraq today at approximately 1:10 p.m. EST.
Leaflets were dropped near Al Amarah, approximately 165 miles
east southeast of Baghdad; and near Ar Rumaylah, approximately
225 miles southeast of Baghdad.
The types of leaflets dropped today informed the Iraqi people,
out of concern for their own safety, that military fiber optic
sites have been targeted for destruction and repairing them places
their life at risk; that Coalition aircraft can strike at will—anytime
and anyplace—and that Coalition air power enforces the No-Fly-Zone
to protect the Iraqi people.
This was the 12th leaflet drop over southern Iraq by Coalition
aircraft in 2003 and the 23rd since the Coalition began leaflet
drops in October 2002.
