COALITION FORCES DROP LEAFLETS IN SOUTHERN IRAQ
SOUTHWEST ASIA – Coalition aircraft dropped informational leaflets over
southern Iraq today. Coalition forces dropped leaflets at approximately
2:30 a.m. EST at several locations near Al Basrah, Az Zubayr, Umm Qasr
and An Nasiriyah. The Coalition dropped a total of 480,000 leaflets over
the locations, between An Nasiriyah, which is located approximately 170
miles southeast of Baghdad, and Al Basrah, which is located approximately
245 miles southeast of Baghdad.
The types of leaflets dropped today informed the Iraqi people of radio
frequencies where Coalition forces are broadcasting information about
United Nations Security Council Resolution 1441, United Nations weapons
inspectors in Iraq, Iraqi President Saddam Hussein’s reign and other topics.
Another type of leaflet stated that Coalition forces do not wish to harm
the noble Iraqi people or destroy their landmarks, and for the civilian
populace to avoid military occupied areas.
