COALITION FORCES DROP LEAFLETS IN CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN IRAQ
SOUTHWEST ASIA – Coalition aircraft dropped informational
leaflets over central and southern Iraq today. Coalition forces
dropped leaflets at approximately 3:25 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. EST
at several locations near Al Hillah, Al Qasim, Madhatiyah, Al
Hashimiyah, all approximately 65 miles south of Baghdad. Other
leaflet drops also occurred over Safwan, Al Basrah and Az Zubayr,
all approximately 245 southeast of Baghdad. The Coalition dropped
a total of 480,000 leaflets over the locations.
One type of leaflet dropped today informed the Iraqi people of
radio frequencies where Coalition forces are broadcasting information
about United Nations Security Council Resolution 1441, United
Nations weapons inspectors in Iraq, Iraqi President Saddam Hussein’s
reign as well as other topics. Another type of leaflet stated
that Coalition forces do not wish to harm the noble Iraqi people
or destroy their landmarks, and for the civilian populace to avoid
areas occupied by the military. Other leaflets also informed Iraqi
air defense personnel not to track or fire on Coalition aircraft,
for Coalition air power will retaliate anytime, any place.
