FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
COALITION FORCES DROP MORE THAN 1.4 MILLION LEAFLETS INTO IRAQ
SOUTHWEST ASIA – Coalition aircraft dropped 1,440,000 informational leaflets into western and southern Iraq today. Today’s leaflet drop was the largest to date.
Coalition aircraft dropped the leaflets throughout the day today over military and civilian sites in nearly 20 locations across Iraq. Today’s actions bring the total number of leaflets dropped to more than 12 million this year.
The leaflet drops were part of an ongoing effort to protect Iraqi lives and deter Iraqi aggression by providing relevant, factual information to both Iraqi civilians and military troops.
The leaflets dropped today expressed a variety of messages. Some stressed that Coalition forces do not wish to harm innocent Iraqis. Others stated Coalition forces are trained to defend themselves against chemical attack. One message informed Iraqi citizens they could be the victims if Saddam Hussein uses chemical weapons. Another message encouraged the Iraqi military to refrain from using weapons of mass destruction.
Coalition forces continue to provide daily uncensored news and information in radio broadcasts to the Iraqi people, including information about United Nations Security Council Resolution 1441 and Iraqi President Saddam Hussein’s reign.
